The ease of traversal comes in handy when you are running low on potions and other resources and need to get back to town. The best part is that you don’t have to wait in loading screens as you are able to seamlessly travel across the entire map, even when using the fast travel teleporters you find while out exploring. You can still walk through lush green forested areas and across snow capped mountains. While the dark Elex is definitely taking a toll on the wildlife, the world is still beautiful. The vintage aesthetic adds a real charm to the game and I often find myself just admiring the vistas and marveling at the creatures the team at Piranha Bytes have created (there’s literally a monster called a Critter). The world of Magalan is truly a spectacle. Some may even approach you about concerns they have, taking you out on side missions to help you earn a little more experience points and maybe even grow your relationship with the individual. This is also where those you have recruited will stay, awaiting your next orders and making preparations of their own. From here you will be able to craft most of your upgrades, conduct research on dark Elex, and launch major operations, all the while building up your ragtag group of comrades in arms. Right away you make an unexpected ally, honestly the last person you would expect to be pairing up with in this new fight, and set up a base of operations at the Bastion. You will have to be careful as you navigate through forests, across rivers and streams, and over mountainous landscapes. As is typical of their games, the world is very unforgiving, and monsters can easily take you out in a single shot. However, Piranha Bytes doesn’t make this easy for you. Your gear and possessions were destroyed in the initial invasion so you have to build up your arsenal again in order to defend yourself. And, as Jax, you are also affected, trying to maintain control of your own sanity and fighting against your own decline.Īgainst what appears to be insurmountable odds, you are tasked with rebuilding a broken world, one that is heavily divided not only by the previous conflict, but also by varying ideals across the factions. The Skyands have come, falling from the sky, and are unleashing dark Elex on Magalan, threatening all life. That is until a meteor destroys the hut he’s been living in with a thunderous crash and Jax is thrust once again into a war for survival. After taking down the Hybrid, Jax goes into isolation, shirking his responsibilities and shutting out the world, including his own family. It will be up to you to restore the balance and unite everyone against this common enemy before all life is extinguished.Įlex II picks up six years after the events of the first game, though for some the memories remain fresh. ![]() ![]() ![]() In this action-packed sequel, you will need to stay on your toes – and try to focus, because every decision you make will have an effect on how it all ends. Return to Magalan in this open world post-apocalyptic RPG from developer Piranha Bytes, the team behind the Gothic and Risen games. Jax is back and an all-new very powerful threat has emerged in Elex II.

A closing sentence can be safely omitted in short paragraphs dealing with rather simple and straight-forward ideas, but it is an essential element when discussing more complex topics. So don’t start with the details, start your paragraphs with the topic or main point and help your reader avoid the frustration!Īs the topic sentence is the optimal beginning of your paragraph, a closing sentence providing a brief summary or conclusion is the best way to wrap-up the contents of your paragraph and create a smooth transition to the next paragraph. Maybe you have read paragraphs like those before: when the paragraph finally comes to the point, you need to read it again to really understand it. If the topic you write about is complex (and I bet your research project is complex), this approach typically leads to a cognitive overload of your reader. On the other hand, if you omit the topic sentence and start out with details, your reader will need to keep everything in their mind until you finally provide the key to tie all those details together. Check out how it works with this article and its topic sentences. Moreover, the proper use of topic sentences allows the reader to gain an overview of the article content by just reading the first sentence of each paragraph. It gives the reader an idea of what the paragraph is going to be about - it provides context which enables the reader to easily follow the subsequent reasoning and understand the details even when they are complex. This topic sentence, the sentence containing the main point or introducing the topic of the paragraph, makes for the perfect beginning of your paragraph. If it is not possible to find an overarching theme for all the details contained in your paragraph, then you should either split the paragraph (if it deals with several different points) or think about what you want to say with that paragraph in the first place (if it seems like the paragraph is not making any point at all). To test whether a paragraph really contains a single topic is simple: try to express the topic of your paragraph in one sentence. A paragraph allows you to introduce, discuss, and conclude an idea in a “single package”, which makes the reader’s job as easy as it can get. The golden rule of writing great paragraphs is to discuss only one idea or topic per paragraph. But is this really a good criterion? If you have any doubts about how to best structure your scientific text in paragraphs, then this article is for you. How do you make paragraphs in your scientific texts? Do you proceed intuitively, as one researcher admitted to me recently? He reported to start a new paragraph simply when the current one gets “long enough”. If you feel like your manuscripts are hard to understand and lack a flow and logical structure, learning the art of paragraph writing might be just the solution you need. Carefully designed paragraphs are the key to well-structured and easy-to-read texts. ![]() There is a collective power in this exhibition formed by bringing together such like-minded artists. He expresses so beautifully the healing element that these drawings can offer when he says “I can talk, walk, climb, smile, love and kiss all the sadness goodbye with them.” For each of these kindred spirits, drawing has the ability to give them a sense of wellbeing, balance and contentment. It is at this stage that o2o chooses to make conscious changes, whilst Ahmadi admits that he sometimes wants to do more, but resists the temptation saying “I know that I am not supposed to touch it as the work is already speaking and alive.” He describes his work as holographic, an illusion of a three dimensional space where every line is a tangible presence of experience reflected back. They feel like they are seeing their work for the first time and find themselves attempting to interpret its meaning. The finished drawings are often a surprise to the artists. ![]() All of these drawings have an ethereal quality that is like a glimpse from the corner of your eye that is just out of reach of normal vision. With Neate and Nishikawa a further layer of otherworldliness is formed from the act of turning the paper or board while working, producing an ambiguity to its orientation. In the case of o2o the words are from languages we recognise, whereas in Nishikawa’s work it is predominantly an unidentifiable script. They are predominantly monochrome, which Nishikawa describes as “conducive to maintaining a rhythmic flow.” Neate compares the diaphanous gossamers of fine lines surrounding mysterious faces to residual energy from people before us, “like souls sewn in the mesh of time.” Other examples have monolithic shapes or primordial creatures, occasionally embedded with geometric symbols and text. Their drawings depict a connection, harness and release of an energy in the form of an image that is succinctly described by Neate as “part of an eternal memory of which the act of drawing unlocks so that it can appear in the world.”Ĭommon characteristics are evident among the artworks in this exhibition. Through the humble pen or pencil, they are able to render the invisible as a mesmerising reality and capture on paper these ethereal images and fleeting thoughts in an art form that is more than mere creative skill and imagination. It is as if they have connected to a higher force or dipped into a deep universal well of consciousness that is beyond the reach of most people. Subconscious thoughts, memories, souls and spirits draw closer and flow through the conscious mind of the artists with a mysterious force that often feels to them like they are being guided in some way by an unknown entity. It is as if a veil is briefly lifted or a portal has opened to another level of time and space, a parallel dimension within us or around us. He also continues his search for the perfect chair in which to work, whilst Ahmadi found his treasured seat abandoned in a parking lot.ĭrawing is an essential part of the lives of these four artists who begin by establishing a meditative or trancelike concentration that o2o describes as being “out of myself.” Here, real time fades out of focus as they become absorbed in their creativity, and without a preconceived idea of the outcome, their pens glide effortlessly and automatically across the paper. Neate’s pen, for example, will not flow if he is distracted, causing the lines to become heavier. The mood is an important aspect for these artists. ![]() Ahmadi uses a candle to alter the light around him, whilst Neate occasionally looks at the flickering and muted television screen showing old British movies that remind him of the past. For the majority, music is often instrumental to the creative process, as is a quiet space without distraction. Over time these kindred spirits have all found ways of working that are favourable to their act of mark making. For others, like Nishikawa, this skill came later through the act of doodling. He discovered his clairvoyant and clairaudient abilities, along with the skill to create, at a young age. Some of this development has taken years, like o2o, whose name symbolises eternal learning or wisdom. Each has a deep understanding of the other’s ups and downs encountered in the development of this unusual artistic process. ![]() The irrepressible urge to draw, accompanied by experiences of a spiritual or psychic nature, forms a harmonious bond between the artists.
